Yes, we DO HAVE filberts.
Our hazelnut orchard succumbed to the Eastern Filbert Blight, like many of the orchards in the Willamette Valley where most of the US hazelnuts are grown. Fortunately, researchers at OSU have released the Jefferson variety which is immune to the blight. During 2010-11, with volunteer help of friends we took out the diseased trees, and in December 2011 planted 700 new hazelnuts trees.
The wait is over! After five years of tending our new orchard and anticipating nuts, we have finally harvested! Our delicious hazelnuts will be for sale on Saturdays at the farm from 8:00 - 2:00 and every Saturday of the Proctor Farmer's Market, which is weekly until the end of the year!
Our delicious in-shell nuts will be $8.00/lb at the market, $7.50/lb at the farm, and $7.00/lb for 5lb or more. A new option: we have a cracker available both at the farm and at the market so that you can crack some or all of your purchase and easily start snacking and baking!
