The Ghost of Tomatoes Future

What is a Puget Sound farmer to do? Tomatoes are essential to respectable veggie production and yet they are tropical. Besides their need for heat, tomatoes also are highly susceptible to soil-borne diseases, so soil splash from rain is an unwelcome threat. In the photo some of our tomatoes are under this ghostly row-cover (spun poly remay) and at least some will stay under cover until all threat of rain is past. We have high hopes for these tomatoes--those T-posts are 8 feet tall! |
